Civilized Sophistication

One reads on the Net that gene splicing is the same as selective breeding, that the warming climate change we experience is but part of a redundant natural cycle, that the FBI organized the 6 January attempted insurrection, and even that education used to be better (hey, people used to study Latin! Too bad the Chinese didn’t, hunh?). A while back I learned of “Zomia” – a land of anarchic bliss stretching from northern Vietnam to Tibet (or inside hollow Mars maybe; I get confused).
“Saint” Anselm, Immanuel Kant, Alfred North Whitehead, and Jacques Derrida all “added to the sum of human knowledge”… Fascist Israel is held to a lower standard than Iran, perhaps because a Cradle of Civilization requires a higher standard? Nah.
Does civilization mean buildings? The Lahu (Musu) ultimate Zomians, traditionally built of bamboo. For how long, nobody knows. Does civilization mean trade? Mayhaps its cornerstone is deceit. Manipulation, anyway. It’s clear humans reached South America by boat long before the oldest known stone buildings were built. Boats don’t indicate civilization? Maybe civilization is just class stratification.
Is there different ‘knowledge’ for different classes? Sure there is. Different ‘magic’ too. Even words vary in meaning between classes. I can’t add to discussion, such as it I s, of viral disease. I wish I could. I find it fascinating how quickly the pandemic potential of Sars-corona was announced, late in 2019. I well-remember misinformation about AIDS 30 or so years ago, but have never seen as much usage of the term misinformation as of recent, despite what I consider a prevalence of misinformation in politics, academia, religion, media and what passes for public discourse. People have always been misinformed, and pompous about it, but this emergency seems special. Perhaps emergencies always do. I only wish I knew more. I do, though, understand the mistrust in leadership, leadership that isn’t really there.
Who oversees the overseers now? Certainly not investigative reporters. Either you’re “with us” or, again, us. If you’re not in it for money, you’re off the bus.
Voltaire claimed, "I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: Oh Lord, make my enemies ridiculous. And God granted it.(Letter to Étienne Noël). Although it seems God did as the Great Man asked, it seems He included everyone else too.
